“It worked great, Ed,” Cane said through their comms. “We see increased foot traffic and autos on this street. You drew them out.”

“It’s kind of weird talking out loud like this, and you can hear me from across the street,” Eddie admitted with a nervous chuckle. “Nail anyone yet? Get Anson?”

“Hang in there, buddy. You’re safe in that house. You have the team inside there with you that you can see, and several scattered and hidden outside in plain clothes so they don’t tip anyone off.”

“You didn’t answer my question,” Eddie replied.

“We don’t have Anson, no sign of him. It’s only been a few hours since your live interview, though. He’s calculated, he’s going to plan something, he isn’t going to fly off the handle.”

C.T. came through the comms the entire team was using. “I’m on the ground with PD, and we’ve grabbed six suspects and tossed them in the van, and they’re going in for questioning.”

“You arrested them? Outside this house? Coming for me?” Eddie’s nerves became more and more apparent. “Six of them?”

“We have seven more under surveillance, too,” Killion chimed in from his post at Watermark. “The chat rooms are all talking about you. You really pissed them off and got them talking. Every one of these guys has admitted to murder by saying they’re going to do to you what they did to the girl—or in some cases—girls.”

“So, the girls on the wall…” Eddie swallowed hard, and it could be heard through everyone’s earpiece.

“Calm down there, buddy,” Mercy said. “None of them can get to you. This was the plan to flush them all out. Anson will have no choice but to expose himself if all his lunatic followers are locked up.”

“Right.” Eddie chuckled. “Hero status over here, saving lives and shit.”

“Hey, Ed? Don’t freak out, but did you order pizza?” C.T. asked.

“Pizza? No. I don’t think I could eat right now if I wanted to,” Eddie answered. “You sure it’s coming here? Should I be worried?”

“Seems there’s a delivery headed in your direction. I’m pursuing on foot, so don’t answer the door. Just sit tight,” C.T. fired back.

“We got a visual,” Mercy added. “He’s headed up to Eddie’s door. Move in but don’t blow cover.”

“I have eyes on him,” C.T. said as he bent to make it appear as if he was tying his shoe in order to buy time and see what this man was doing.

“He looked right into one of the cameras on approach,” Killion said. “I’m running him through facial rec, but no hits so far.”

“He’s still knocking and ringing the bell,” Eddie whispered frantically. “What the fuck do I do?”

“Exactly what you’re doing,” Cane answered. “Keep talking to us, and don’t answer that door. You’re doing good. You’re surrounded by help out here and in there. Just play it cool, man. Nobody can get to you and hurt you.”

“I, uh, know…just doesn’t make it any easier to sit here and wait for hell to break loose.”

Cane looked at Mercy and gestured for them to move in.
